Looking at Birds

Reptiles are vertebrates (ver-ta-brits), meaning they have a backbone. Unlike
reptiles, birds are warm-blooded. All birds walk around on two legs, just like people. In many ways, though, birds are very different from people. It would be very hard for birds to fly if they were too heavy, so birds have hollow bones that are filled with air. Birds are very active animals, always moving around and watching for food or predators. This takes a lot of energy, so most birds have very quick digestion so they'll be able to escape dangers quickly, even if they're eating a meal.

Birds can be found in nearly every part of the planet. Some birds, like penguins, live in Antarctica and swim around in the icy water. Other birds, like Marco the Macaw, live in South America in the rain forest where it's very hot and humid. Different birds eat different kinds of foods. Some birds eat only seeds, while others eat insects, fruits and vegetables, and meat.
