New Arrivals at the Zoo

December 2nd 2007
Kacie the koala has made an unusual friend while roaming around her habitat. A baby sparrow fell out a tree one day. Kacie climbed down to look at the small bird. The sparrow was not hurt from the fall and immediately hopped onto kacies' leg. To our surprise Kacie was not scared of this and seemed to treat the little bird as a friend. Ever since that day the little has followed Kacie everywhere. Kacie will try to find small insects for the sparrow to eat and is trying to help it fly. It is a really neat friendship they have, come on by and check it out for yourself.

The new baby owl, Linden, seems to be really excited about flying. He has been trying for a couple weeks almost every day. We think he is getting pretty close. He will try to jump off rocks and branches then flap his wings. Sometimes he will fly for a meter or so, but he usually ends up doing spins of flips in the air. Once his feathers are a little stronger he will be able to fly better. So come on by and cheer him on in his attempts at flying. He is a funny little guy and full of spunk.

The three bear cubs, Ben, Tom, and Alan are growing up very fast. They have been playing king-of-the-mountain on this mound in their habitat all day long. Ben usually tries to tackle his brothers when they try to get on top of the hill, then they all end up rolling down the hill in this huge furry ball, it is a pretty funny thing to see. Come on by the bear exhibit and say hi to these little guys.

Chandra the fox gave birth to a baby boy about a week ago. The zoo staff named it Sampson after one of the zoo keepers who worked with foxes. This little guy is full of life and energy. He is very playful towards the keepers and likes to play tug-of-war with everything, and he loves to bite at shoes. Come by the fox exhibit to see this furry little guy in action.
