A Zoo at Home?

You can't visit Windaroo Zoo everyday. Sometimes you're going to want to learn about life when you're at home. Then it is time to head out to your back yard or a local park with your parents. You have a world of life all around you; all you have to do is look.

At Windaroo Zoo, the animals don't just appear. We have teams of people traveling around the world looking for new species of animals that we can show you. We also have teams of researchers studying the animals of the world.

If you have dreams of working with a zoo, you can start now. You can explore the world right outside your window. We're not talking about looking out, you need to get out there and look closely a the ground, the flowers, the ponds. You'll find thousands of species that you can learn about.
Maybe you want to study your backyard. First, you need to talk to your parents about what you want to do. They will help you get materials for you study. Then you might want to start by drawing and labeling a map of your garden. Then it is time to get outside.

Start in one corner and move slowly around the area. We mean really slowly. Look at each flower and plant you find. Stop and just look. Chances are you will see something moving. Then it is time to look closer. Maybe you'll see a ladybeetle, maybe a marching line of ants. Record your observations in a notebook. Now that you know there is something there, don't forget to go back every now and then to see if anything has changed.

Over many trips into the garden, you will learn about the animals and life that live just outside your window.
