Tasmanian Devil

Tasmanian Devil Name: Tasmanian Devil
Scientific Name: Sarcophilus harrisii

Basic Information:
The Tasmanian Devil comes from the family Dasyuridae. The Devil is a unique animal in many respects, most namely their patterns of behavior. Tasmanian Devils are solitary animals, but commonly eat together, using complicated vocalizations, gestures, and physical altercation to establish temporary social hierarchies. These animals are nocturnal but have been observed in activity during the day, as well as sleeping in the sunlight. Devils possess the strongest bite of any living mammal and are able to excrete a foul smelling substance said to rival that of a skunk. Tasmanian Devils were almost wiped out when humans began colonizing the island of Tasmania but have since made somewhat of a recovery.
