Sea Lion
Name: Australian Sea LionScientific Name: Neophoca cinerea
Basic Information:
You have probably heard of Sea Lions before. There are actually several species of sea lions found across the coastal waters of the Earth. They are all classified in the family of mammals called Otariidae. As opposed to seals, you will find ears on sea lions. They also have long front flippers and you may see them waddling around on the rocks or beach in the wild. They spend most of their lives in shallow coastal waters hunting for fish.
All of the Windaroo sea lions have been rescued. Unfortunately, sea lions have to battle nature and man for survival. They are often injured by fishermen and left to die. They can also get caught up in debris floating along the coast. In several locations around the world, some populations have declined as much as 80% since the 1970s.
We could train our smart sea lions, but we prefer to let them live simple lives. You will see the keepers playing games with them, but they are not trained for shows.
