Basic Information:
The Fire Salamander is part of the family Salamandridae. Fire Salamanders are quite common throughout Europe and can usually be identified by their distinct black and yellow markings. Adults range from 15 cm to 25 cm in length and are usually found in wooded areas where shelter under fallen branches, leaves, and other forms of cover are readily available. Fire Salamanders have an effective natural defense in the form of poison glands which can excrete a dangerous neurotoxin.
Habitat Information:
Temperate Forest - Many different types of animals can be found in temperate forest habitat at Windaroo Zoo. Large mammals from both North America and Asia highlight this exhibit, as well as birds, insects, and other small animals.
