Scientific Name: Camelus dromedaries

Basic Information:
Commonly known as the Dromedary camel, these desert camels are native to parts of Africa and Asia. These camels are believed to be first used by man in Arabia, for transportation of goods and people. Adult male camels can grow quite large reaching 2 meters tall and weighing around 550kg. Females are on average 1.8 meters tall and weigh around 500kg. One of the most distinct features of a camel is its ability to conserve water very well. It is able to do this because of its ability to vary its body temperature from 34 to 41 degrees Celsius.
