Bobcat
Name: BobcatScientific Name: Lynx rufus
Basic Information:
The bobcat can grow to 1.2 m length and weigh between 7 and 14 kg. These animals can live up to 16 years in the wild and up to 32 years in captivity. The females are slightly smaller weighing an average of 9 kg. The bobcat's white and brown fur help it blend in to its forested habitat, and conceal itself from prey. A bobcat's diet consists mainly of rabbits, hares, rodents and small antelope. It has on occasion been known to eat insects. Bobcats are stealthy predators and tend to stalk their prey before making the attack. When prey is plentiful the cats will do a good amount of hunting to help gain energy and extra fat for when food is sparse. Most of its hunting is done at night and can travel up to 11 km per night. Bobcats are for the most part solitary animals and try not to wander into other bobcat's territory.
