Internship Opportunities

Interns at Windaroo The Windaroo zoo internships program offer individuals the opportunity to explore different career possibilities at the zoo. Interns take on the responsibility, under supervision, of zoo employees, helping care for the animals, performing tests, maintaining facilities, and interacting with zoo patrons.

Internships at the zoo are a great way to gain work experience for future jobs, and demonstrate to employers that you are hardworking, and dedicated to worthwhile endeavors. Internships are a great way to apply what you have learned in school to real-world situations.

Internships are available in the following areas:

Zoo Keepers
Interns work side by side with animal keepers, participating in the day to day tasks, keeping the exhibits operational, learning what it takes to be a zoo keeper, and gaining a better appreciation for the animals around us. This is a great opportunity those interested in becoming a keeper or future zoo employee to get a head start.

Habitat Designers
Design interns help zoo planners design animal enclosures and conduct research on animal behavior and real-world habitats. Tasks include brainstorming layout of habitats, how to best utilize park space, meeting with the board of directors to discuss plans, and aid other designers in additional tasks.

Zoo Maintenance and Operations
Interns will be trained to manage a section of the park and upon completion will take on the responsibilities of the park worker.

All intern positions are paid. Compensation amount is based on experience and can increase during the internship period.

Internship periods range from summer months, 6-month, and year-round positions.
